Hi Gang. How often do I need to keep refilling my V8 Twin Carbs and what should I look for in difference in performance.
I check and refill mine every time I check the oil (every 2 weeks), if they need oil in them then you will find that the engine takes longer to drop back to idle revs when you rev the engine.
sorry to but in but on the topic of carb dashpots what is the recomendation of the forum for the most sutable oil??
Hello Shayne. I use 15w40 for mine this is according to 110 manuals.
perhaps not ok cheers for that. :)
so Shayne was, like...
Other way round. Thicker oil means the damper rises more slowly, which means the mixture is richer for longer when you need it.
ah bugger i never thought of it that way but yes i see it ta
the mixture is richer for
Shouldn't that be "Thicker oil means the damper rises more slowly, which means the mixture is LEANER" there's more fuel when the piston is at the top and the needle is further out

It's a while since I messed with these type of carb, but I thought the purpose of the damper was to keep the mixture nice and rich for a few moments when you pressed the loud pedal. BICBVW.
I think that is the case, in which thicker oil will cause the damper to act slower therefore keeping it richer slightly longer. I seem to recall over the years different oil was specified, from something as thin as 3 in 1 type to ATF to 20/50. I also read thicker oil is more suitable for (a) a worn carb and (b) lower rpm. In my 90 V8 (SU's) I use GTX which seems to work ok.

Thicker oil gives a richer accel due to a higher vacuum being present across the jet orifice. Badger.

You guys are right I'm a diesel man myself well that's my excuse anyway 8¬P Check out
