2004 RX330 not developing power to climb hills

Feb 09, 2005 4 Replies

Our 2004 RX330 seems to not have enough power to climb even small hills. I know of several other folks that seem to be experiencing this. The dealer indicated a software upgrade was in the works to fix the problem, but no fix yet and no follow-up from Lexus.

Anyone have any information on this? Is it related the the ES330 hesitation problem?

Thanks, Clark

Try manually downshifting to 3 or 4 -- that will help... i have a feeling you are in a high gear and the computer is not smart enough to realize you need more torque...

That could be it. I have been reading about a TSB that would upgrade the transmission and make shifting smoother. Our dealer says they are still waiting on a fix. Does the dealer not know about the update or was there a problem with it and they want to wait? As far as I know, there has never been an update to our vehicle. I am going to ask the dealer directly today, and I e-mailed Lexus yesterday but have not received an answer.

Lexus is bad about emailing back, but they are good if you call them (good at picking up the phone at least)... Try alldata.com and search for your TSB...

I think it is most likely the transmission. The 3 2004RX330 loaners that I drove were very sluggish up a hill - seemed I always had to press much harder than I wanted to.
