Aging Vinmtage Lexus LS 400 -What have your problems been

My LS 400 is now 13 years old, a 1990. It has 107,000 miles on it of mostly city driving.

In the last two months the following have gone wrong:

Rack and Pinions had to be replaced - almost 1800 from a trusted non Lexus mechanic

Wire harness on the steering column including the spring loaded coil on the column. Part alone from Lexus 332.00, another 180 installation same mechanic as above.

Two pulley bearings gone dry.

Anyone else had these sorts of problems?

I've been of the mind it is a great car and worth the repairs since the body is good and other mechanical pats seem ok. Just worried I may be entering a period of many, many repairs.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Are you the original owner of this vehicle? Too many things for a car with only 107,000 miles. All that I have had to do with my 98 is change the brakes. It does have a damaged CD Changer, but that was because a colleague messed it up.

In news:- snipped-for-privacy@comcast.com, TVPro being of bellicose mind posted:

Mostly city miles, eh? Under this kind of operating condition, I would kind of expect the steering rack to start leaking fluid and/or become a bit loose. The wiring harnass in the steering colum... same thing. Plastic and contacts deteriorate with age and use respectively. City driving means you use that switch per 100 miles much more often than an Interstate driver. Pulley bearings. Again, AGE and driving conditions. If I were you, my concern would be the transmission. THAT is a BIG ticket repair and more likely considering your primary use of the car.

Typical systems that fail on first gen LS400: Power Steering Pump / System Alternator (only if PS Pump leaks and shorts it) AC Lighted Spedometer needles Tempature LCD

All my major bills occurred between 90K and 150K No catastrophic failures that left me stranded

Currently: 196K miles (and few signs of slowing down) Hwy MPG: 25 City: 18 or less Rust on the top edge of read driver wheel well. (bubbling of paint). Passenger Electric door lock ( intermittent failure - humidity related??)

Purchase Price ~$41K Cost of maintenance (including tires) ~$17K / 14 years Cost of ownership $4,142/yr =( 41K + 17K ) / 14

My LS400 will be 15 years old on Aug 4, 2004 and has 120k miles. My problems have been as follows:

Rear axel replaced at 8500 mi--Lexus reimbursed for parts although warranty period had expired Front brake drums turned 42k mi Timing belt replaced at 75k mi (routine maintenance) A/C retrofitted at 105K mi Tires (3rd set) Michelin from Costco

Total expenditure for above: $2500 (est)

Cars owned since 1946 include Pontiac, Chevrolet, Ford, Cadillac (2), Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Mercury Capri, Mazda RX-7 (2), Toyota Celica (2) and Highlander (presently)

And now that I have went public with the above, are bad tidings around the corner?
