In '94 was Lexus still Toyota?

Huh??? They're still "under" Toyota. They've never been out from "under" Toyota. And why don't you just check the reliability of Lexus if you want to know the reliability of Lexus--from whatever year?

In 1994, were Lexus cars under Toyota? I'm in the process of purchasing a '94 GS 300 and I want to make sure that the Lexus still has the same reliability as the Toyota. Thanks.

MY 93 GS300 was a fat pig. It was comfortable but used a lot of gas and not particularly great at anything.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. The reason I'm interested in purchasing this one was because I'm in a really tight budget (can't spend more than $6000-$7000) and I currently have an '89 Volvo 240DL. Also, since it had few miles (67000 miles) and I know the person that's selling it, I thought it'd be a good buy. Also, it's Lexus and, around here, $6500 won't really buy you that much more. I don't know much about cars, but most older cars (10+ yrs. old) seem to look old (my Volvo's the perfect example). But the GS300 looks like a very modern car. Anyone that doesn't know about cars, like myself, would think the '94 GS300 is no more than 4-5 yrs. old.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just remember you're buying a 10 year old car and ANY 10 year old car is going to need repairs.

If money's THAT tight, just keep in mind that it's a Lexus and you'll be paying Lexus money for parts and Lexus money for labor to repair it.

One problem with Toyotas and Hondas is that while nothing ever goes wrong, that means the entire car is 10 years old. In all probability very few parts have been replaced... yet. Seals and rubber parts don't last forever.

Another comparable vehicle in the class/money/ range is the Acura Legend. Those 6 cylinder engines are a gift from above, and personally I think that the ride quality it miles above the Lexus. Check em out.
