steam clean the whole lot and have a look

REMOVE any built up mess of oil. go to lordco and buy some engine clean or just use a steel brush and soapy water. all up to how much work u want to apply. when engine is clean and dry. especially around suspected spot. get a infamous pen light from mac or snap-op. even lorco have them. they have a bright white light or get a blue light. watch are and wait for oil sweat. my opinion without even seeing is the crankshaft seal, or sometimes the trans front pump seal goes and results of the dirty dust and trans oil look alot like engine oil. good luck. worst case. seal kit. probaly a oil temp, or level sensor switch.

A litre of oil every 1000 miles isn't madly overboard. It'll use 2 gallons a year - far cheaper than the cost of fixing what's wrong.

Is it leaking from the top of the engine or seems to be underneath?

quality advice dub! thanx

Yeah, because allowing an engine to leak oil all over the drivetrain is

*clearly* a good idea. F*ck sake Conor, expected better than that from you.
