306 Heater fan

Hi All,

306 Diesel, non-turbo. 1998 R-plate.

Heater blower isn't working. Was simply blowing the fuse no29 as soon as the ignition was turned on.

Replaced resistor pack. Still didn't work.

Took motor out, checked, spins ok, runs ok when connected directly.

Put motor back in, miraculously it worked for about 20 mins. Went over a bump. Now all it does is blow the fuse again.

I'm guessing this is dodgy wiring and something is shorting out, thus blowing the fuse. Everything worked fine while it did work - all 4 fan speeds, recirc, perfect.

Any ideas, or is it a case of chasing the wiring back to the fusebox via the heater control and checking it out?

Thanks

Mike P

Disconnect the motor when it's blown a fuse and test across the terminals to see if it's got an internal short. And/or couple something like a bulb across the wires that have been removed from the motor and see if the bulb lights or the fuse blows when you switch it on. If the fuse blows even with a bulb then you've probab;ly got a chafed wire that is hitting part of the body when you go over a bump.
