8 stolen cats !!!!!

barstard pikeys have had a field day down our part of the world (south) , 8 cats were sawn off vehicles over the weekend all outside the owners premises & all commercial vehicles, the most expensive being £800 & all of them have surcharges on them, but as we don't have any to send back the cost is going to be even more to the vehicle owners. They aren't being taken for use on other vehicles as they cut the cats off leaving the flanges behind, they must be using a cordless cutter.

ok its good money for us replacing them, but its getting beyond the joke now !!!!!

There's a lot of it about. Down here someone recently nicked the cat from a disabled kids minibus. Vans/minibuses/trucks are being targeted because A they're likely to be parked in unsupervised areas overnight, and B because they have the ground clearance so the thieves can get underneath to do the deed.

40 quid a go at the scrappies, I wonder whether any enterprising plod will bother to do any checking as to which scrappie has bought several cats and from whom? No, too hard, it will only lead to an un-owned pykie truck. I am so glad I don't own anything high off the ground with a cat, if I did, then I would electrify it.

They did round our way recently and a couple of the workers were arrested for not keeping sufficient records or summat.

I predict a range of anti-theft guards and 'cat-locks' coming out soon, along with armored fuel tanks and filler pipes.

Personally, I'd go along with your idea .

All the best ..

If it was a steel shroud similar in concept to a wheel clamp or one of those steering wheel cover-locks it will potentially move said skum onto easier (and quieter [1]) pickings?

[1] Don't they typically use a silent hand pipe cutter?

I honestly have no hope of the police doing anything about it, particularly if they suspect it's the doing of travellers. I've now heard far too many first hand tales from trustworthy people of the police, trading standards etc. being completely disinterested.

A friend was at our local scrappy last week when a very attractive blonde turned up with a car load of copper. Couple of minutes later the police charged in and arrested her. Seems she was weighing it in for her druggy boyfriend who was too well known to show his face there himself. So they're not _always_ disinterested.

It must have been the day when the "scrap yard initiative" was being held. Holistic policing seems a thing of the past.
