Anyone here good with these engines???
Just noticed a leak after buying this car 2 weeks ago. Does it look serious or is it the alan bolt that is leaking and can they be easily replaced??

Seems like an head oilway passage thats sealed externally by a plug, which is leaking.
A local garage should be able to effect a cure.

You'll probably find the leak is actually coming from between the rocker cover and the cylinder head. It's worst at the lowest point, underneath where the HT leads enter the rocker cover, which makes it appear as if that bolt you pictured is weeping.
The oil leak happens because the rocker cover is sealed to the head with a rubber gasket which hardens and cracks with age and heat from the engine.
Take off the black cover labelled "Ecotec" (2 allen bolts) and look in the wells which contain the spark plugs. If they're full of oil, it's the rocker cover gasket. Unplug the leads (noting which goes where), undo the allen bolts securing the rocker cover, and lift it off. You'll see the gasket is a press-fit into a groove in the cover, and it'll fall apart when you try and lift it out.
A pattern replacement gasket is about 7 quid. I used a tiny smear of blue Hylamar when replacing mine, but you may choose not to bother.
Nice one Mike... Took it to garage today and Mechanic has done just as you said. There was over 1/2 pint of oil in the plugs, no wonder it was starting to backfire!!!
