WHY do they insist I register? I simply will not bother to look around the site and they will get less hits. I'll register if I am posting something, but not just to read whats going on or to get a feel of the site. Even then I would be unlikely to register real info apart from a valid spare email addresss, so what is the point insisting we spend time filling informs just to have a look around?

Waste of time.

Why would anyone want to use a site like this where you have to register, where a check on the uk.d-i-y FAQ will give most of the answers anyone needs?
