Both the interior mirror and the centre brake light have fallen off their respective screens, hanging by the wire in the case of the brake light, I'm told. I haven't seen it yet, but come weekend I'll be expected to fix it. What would you recommend?

Halfords do an adhesive kit specifically for rear-view mirrors.
Maybe it'll do for the brake light too.

You can get a glue in a syringe which comes with a mesh of catalyst. Of all the types I've used - that's the one that never let go again.
Above all, preparations is what makes the difference. Scrupulous cleanliness and ensuring the glass is warm enough to allow the glue to flow into the rougnesses and to cure properly. Ideally do it on a warm day, if not warm the screen with the heaters.
Don't use an innapropriate adhesive by the way. You can crack the glass. E-mail address, hopefully self-explanatory Andy Pandy
Like that fish glue they use to make glass opaque... as it dries, it contracts, and is so good a bond, it strips the surface of the glass.
I seem to remember that proper windscreen / rear view mirror cures with UV, so it doesn't work as well on a cloudy day.

My rear view mirror fixing contains a magnet - thought it odd until the other day when the mirror fell off and then realised it was to hold it in place with a magnet on the other side of the screen whilst the the glue set; needless to say the garage didn't bother and secured it with masking tape unti lthe glue set. Garage did say never use super glue as it will crack the screen in the heat - they knew of countless people who had done this!
