advice and info needed for woman driver!!!

Hope this is the right news group....

Ok so I am playing the sympathy card and being a bit of a woman when it comes to cars but... and don't laugh I have had all the jokes.. I have a skoda felicia and if i put the windscreen wipers on they work lovely until they come to stop.. and they end up half way up the windscreen. If i put them on again they end up further and further up the windscreen. It has only just started doing it!

Does it sound like the motor thingy is going or is it worth giving them a squirt with the WD40.

Any suggestions!

Thanks

Emma

Two possibilities assuming it just stops as soon as you turn them off...

1) Permanent feed to the wiper motor isn't working 2) Park switch inside the motor is broken.

Both need checking by someone whos happy with car electrics.

no they don't just stop they just slow down as though they have run out of energy and don't return to the bottom!!

also ... dojj said about a relay/switch playing up.. whats that all about.. it is expensive or painful? ;-)

any rough ideas on cost if it is the relay/switch/motor that has broken? I don't want to get ripped off as I have absolutely no clue about prices for them or what is involved labour wise.

thanks for your help.. much appreciated!

"Emma" energy and don't return to the bottom!!

It sounds like the park switch thingy is knackered. The park switch thingy is part of the motor thingy and not available on its own. Effectively you need a new motor thingy.

With this problem with wipers it's always as well to check the fuse. Simple to do, cheap to repair, and may well be the cause.

Do the wipers work on intermittent (sp?) If not then its the relay.

Check that the arms are screwed on tightly. If they're coming loose then they may have moved round. Don't know about your car, but often there's a cap that flips up at the motor end of the arm with a nut underneath.

If it was the fuse they wouldn't work. They work but don't park. This means it's the park switch. The park switch is part of the motor. Change the motor.

The message from "shazzbat" contains these words:

Some systems have the parking circuit fused separately from the running fuse so that they still park even if the ignition's turned off with the wipers mid-wipe.

Of course, this may not be one of them and your explanation is the most likely. Personally I'd take the motor to bits and see if it can be fiddled with.

No, not necessarily. I speak from experience. Before I gained this experience I thought as you do and dismantled the motor and the parking arrangements to no avail. Someone told me it might be a fuse and it was. Simple really.
