Advice needed on which alarm to get for my new motor

Having just recently replaced my ageing BMW E34 with a '99 E36 323i Touring, I was amazed to find it wasn't fitted with any alarm or immobiliser as standard. Any advice as to a decent quality unit/system for DIY fitting? I want to do it myself as I've had to 'undo' for a few friends' motors, the 'work' (Bodges) of several so-called specialists in the past. (I don't specifically need Thatcham approved systems, just reliable and secure) Any info greatly appreciated. Cheers, JB

- Got a dog with big *spiky* teeth already, but she doesn't like being left in the car for long (and I couldn't afford the bill for the new upholstery eitther!).

So far, I'm quite impressed with the Sigma alarm fitted to SWMBO's car. The fob is good quality, it works perfectly and hasn't had a single false alarm since we got the car, five months ago.

Sigma M34. It appears that this particular system is designed to upgrade a vehicles existing OEM security system to Thatcham category 1, so it may not be exactly what you're looking for.

Nevertheless, it's a good system - it even has a keypad fitted that allows you to switch various extra security features on & off e.g. automatic door locking when you turn on the ignition, or you can set it so that you have to put a PIN in to stop the alarm & immoboliser. The idea of that is for when you go away, in case someone breaks in and nicks the keys.

I have an address but no phone number, I'm afraid. I'm sure there are plenty of dealers out there.

There's a couple of their systems here:

It turns out I *do* have an ommobiliser fitted after all; the BMW EWS system. But sadly no alarm or remote unlocking. I believe Sigma do an approved upgrade for this system so I'll be off shopping then!

What, in this day and age? Good grief! When I was a kid, my Aunty got a new (J reg) Clio - even that had remote control locks! I'd heard that you don't get much standard equipment on a Beemer, but that really takes the piss! Is the horn electric, or do you have to squeeze a rubber bulb? ;-)

Never mind, you'll have remote locks once the alarm is fitted (it /does/ have central locking, doesn't it?). ;-)
