Air Con Problem

Dear All I have reviewed the other air con info but did not find what I was looking for.

I have an 98 mondeo 2.5 ghia x, and have a problem with the air con.

Basically it does not blow really cold air. It does blow air but not significantly cold as you would expect.

The system is fully charged and has no leaks. Basically i have had it for 2 years and it has never blown really cold air. Summer is comming and I want to make it work. I checked the system pressure and the pressure is good.

The clutch kicks in for about 1-2 seconds then off for 15 or more seconds, then kicks in again.

It does take the water out of the air, as it demists excellent.

Does any 1 know of anything else i should try?

Thanks

And what pressures did you get? at what ambient temperature? What temp comes out of the vents in relation to ambient? It has the symptoms (rapid cycling of the compressor) that can accompany low refrigerant.

I would recommend getting a recharge from somewhere with a modern recycling machine, most places charge about 50 to 80 quid. Well worth it.

Then it's low on rerfigerant, as the low-pressure sensor on the input of the compressor is detecting the pressure drop too low once the compressor starts up, and sends a signal for it to switch off. After 15 seconds the pressure of the system settles down and the cycle repeats.

Get the car to an A/C specialist who can remove the existing refrigerant, purge the system, and weigh in the correct charge, and it should then work fine.

I agree. Had that happen last week. Clutch on Mondeo kicking in and out. Low refrigerant due to minor leak. Auto Aircon Man fixed leak, (=A388 for pipe and =A3100 for dismantling half the car to fit it).

All fine now (cross fingers) and brass monkeys flagging me down on motorways.
