air lock?

More likely that the head gasket is gone, just done one today, before I fixed it there were loads of swishing water noises when you first start it up.

Could also be running low on PAS fluid.... my 75 has a slight leak in the pipe from the reservoir to the pump (think it needs a new crush washer at the pump end), and it makes swishing noises on startup when it's running low.

BTW, an air lock' is one of those useful phrases that can be used by almost any profession in almost any situation.

My car is running poorly? It's due to an air lock Sir. My computer won't boot up? It's an air lock in the central processor Sir. My account is overdrawn? Sorry, an air lock at head office. The toilet don't flush? Surely, an air lock.

Air locks do develop though, usually caused by blown head gasket or faulty thermostat. In the case of the op car, when refilling the system you must remove the temp sender or the head has no water in it, which by the time it gets hot enough to get the thermo open, the head has overheated and may have warped.

Going to take it in for checking this week. I am now suspecting that the head gasket is blown somewhere although you wouldn't think so driving it. Dont like the colour of the oil either. It may be water in it, but water level doesn't seem to alter. Looks like a big hole in my OAPension. Thanks for all your help everyone. Jim.

The one I just did totalled 356 pounds to the customer, but it did need, in addition to the headgasket parts, a cam tensioner and belt, a thermostat and fan switch. The head gasket, skim and labour would have been about 250 quid
