Alfa 156 buy or not?

If he reckons he can do it for 200 quid he's not doing it properly.

I'm not 100% sure on this one, but, all other 5-pot Fiat lumps are, so there's no reason to suspect this one with be any different - especially as it's a Tipo derived chassis like the Bravo HGT / Marea HLX and Coupe

20v.

LOL, in fact these other items are *more* likely to fail after a new belt has been fitted. The extra tension applied is often a cause of final failure. Not only that, but the impeller on the water pump is plastic, and is known to detach from the spindle at around 80k.

Since when have the Bravo/Marea been based on the Tipo chassis? And there are people out there who can do the whole cambelt/waterpump etc without removing the engine in the HGT and the Coupe. I'd have thought you'd have known better Steve :)

Perhaps to you and I but, I can assure you, Joe Numpty finds it very surprising when his engine drinks 1 litre of oil per 1000km and then dies prematurely.

..er..you saying my single cam 10V is as straight forward to drive as the current 20V heads?

uh huh..a twin cam usually has at least 1 more pulley than a single cam.

Since they are.

As are all Alfa / Fiat group medium cars from the Tipo through to the

156.

Erm, yes, it can be done, but it takes almost as long as leaving the engine in situ. It certainly can't be done for 200 quid.
