Annoying squeak on tickover - 2000 Vreg Laguna

Hi

Im getting a squeak (seems more apparrent when its cold) on tickover as soon as i turn on engine. It lasts for about 20secs then gets quiet, if i start to acelerate then the squeak dissapears faster - then its fine until left for a while.

The car has done 69k, and has recently had a cam-belt kit installed. Is it a fan-belt or timing belt, please bear in mind i know nothing about cars, its just so i dont look like a moron when a garage tries to rip me off!.

Cheers Julian

Could well be fan belt. That usually manifests as a squeal due to the extra load on the alternator when the battery's a bit flat after starting and with demisters on etc. They are usually fairly easy to tighten. It may be that they had to remove the fan belt to get to the cam belt and didn't tighten it properly afterwards?

Try a couple of drops of water on the outside of the belt as it rotates, noise off .... too little tension.

Could possibly be the cam belt tensioner.
