Hi allAfter my VW T3 was written off a month ago by a drunk driver, day after itflew threw its 1st UK mot ins co are sending me a interim payment, they had no idea what it wasworth offerd me 500 at first, then 1500 but as they lent me a huge campercosting 6grand a month they want it back, but now got a specialist VW guywho had seen it, and who told me what value to insure it with write a reportsaying what its actual market value is...so hoping to get a decent price andbuy it backdamage here so no rust or welded panels and it took the whack from the shittylinkcourier driver pretty well (it wrote off his merc van, all crumpled)Anyway, i need a little camper for the Eurotrip and came accross a FordStarcraft.Its a Cortina 1980, but fitted with a 2.3 Peuguot engine and seen lots offotos. and just passed its MOTOwner is a v old guy who has had to stop drivingWhat engine is it likley to be? he says he gets almost 40mpg taking itsteady and i guess it will have plenty of torque.its a ugly quirky thing, but saw one some time ago and took a fancy to it...Anyone ever come accross one, and what do i have to look out for with thisengine, mated to a 5 speed box...cheersPS im with A flux, so what do i tell them it is? not a Q plate but a V reg.

Can't remember what Pug it was in, but in a way it doesn't matter - the Sierra is bound to be the most common UK user.Since it's a kit, though, surely you could lob whatever's nearby in it?Since "Even uglier than your Great-Aunt Doris" is unlikely to be accepted, I'd suggest "It's a Cortina-based kitcar"...

It's lacking a turbo so it's utterly guttless.

You may have heard salesmen saying that modern turbo Diesels are a match for petrol engines well this isn't a modern Diesel. And petrol engines have moved on too.

Perhaps you'd like to call them up and let them know that the GTI, Scirocco, Corrado, Beetle and Type 2 are irrelevant.

Only as narrow-minded as those who can find a magazine entirely devoted to cars with tractor engines a good read.
