Audi remote locking

The message from Duncanwood contains these words:

Not the one I got a £3 from the keycutter in the market hasnt'!

Does that start the car though? If it does then somebodys already bypassed the immobilser, normally by taping a key to the steering column.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@zetnet.co.uk, Guy King decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows

IIRC, on the older Audis, there was a sensor on the drivers door pillar for the remote.

ISTR James May saying something about "Chivalry must be dead in Germany, or Audi don't believe in opening doors for ladies before getting in yourself", then wittering on about approaching Audis from the near side and the remote not working.

The message from Duncanwood contains these words:

Yes. I'm not sure it has that sort of imobiliser. I tried locking the door to arm the alarm then reached in and couldn't start the car - nothing happened.
