Connect jump leads between the terminals of the old battery and the leads so you can disconnect them without losing the circuit. Move the old battery to one side and fit the new. Connect up the new battery and disconnect the jump leads.

If you can't make jump leads fit, wrap some ordinary wire round the terminals, but the principle is the same. Be careful of shorts, obviously.

Get or make a set of jump leads. Connect the new battery to the cars battery leads with the jump leads. CAREFULLY undo the old battery connections. Remove the battery, the new one will now be supplying power to the car via the jump leads. Fit the new battery and connect the leads. MAKE SURE you dont short anything out. Any variation of this theme will work. Personnally I use a jump pack connected to the car leads. It is preferable to use a jump pack with a double ended cigar lead to power ancilliaries / alarms / radios etc when changing vehicle batteries, but in lots of vehicles now that doesnt work due to the onboard vehicle communication systems not allowing back feed through the cigar lighter socket.

If you are not sure of what you are doing, pay someone who knows.

Just a thought, on my Vauxhall you have to disconnect the battery within 15 seconds of turning off the ignition otherwise the alarm goes off.
