The battery light has suddenly started to glow even with the ignition off and key removed. Doesnt glow with the engine running. Whats going on? Its an old nissan bluebird.
Alternator seems to be chaging ok when the engine is running.

the alternator is faulty, and/or charging relay if it has one. it will get worse and the battery will go flat.
have you lost a live plug to the alternator that is now shorting to earth?
The diodes in the alternator have gone buggered. An auto-electrical place can repair it for much less than the cost of buying a new alternator.
