Blocked rear wipers Rover 25 'Y' Reg.

Are you syaing that if you remove the pipe from the rear wiper assembly, then water comes out?

Operate the washer for at least 30 seconds, then go around to the rear passenger wheel and look down. If you see a puddle of water, the washer line as it crosses the hinge point has snapped in two and fluid is running down the inside of the rear hatch and then to the ground.

The type of plastic used for the pipe is pretty poor and winter will cause it to go brittle. I fixed mine with nothing more than two fish tank inline air connectors and a length of air hose of the good quality flexible type to bridge the flex point.

Failing that - it's got crud in the line - often bacterial in origin. I find drilling the nipple out to 0.8 or even 1mm works wonders. You get a decent amount of water on the screen and it doesn't block up every week.

First of all, Conor, either make constructive helpful comments or go away. It's as simple as that, your choice. I have seen the way you give short shrift to people in this newsgroup who require help and not a donation from your swear box, it is really unwarranted and by no means helpful.

Second, I suspect that the owner has a broken pipe where it comes over the hinge area, as per my 25 which had the same fault. BMW in their wisdom used a translucent mid green coloured hose which goes brittle with age and use over the door hinge stress point. The dead giveaway of failure of this hose is usually a puddle of water to backside of the rear passenger on operation of the washer, the water leadng and running down the inside of the hatch, through the drains, into the boot area and then outwards. He will have a wet boot floorpan which will need drying out as well. The other alternative route for water if fractured high up in the flexi connector is by following the inside frame round the bodyshell and exiting by the rear road wheel. Depending on what washer additive he has in the bottle, premature rust will also be found if the pipe has been leaking for a long time due to a fracture, usually around the point where the tailgate cable flex boot plus into either the bodyshell or hatch metalwork.

I found attempting to patch the pipework together a waste of time due to the fact that the stress failure is over the hinge area and an inline connector is not flexible enough in this area. The eventual cure, rather than a complete front to back rehose (which is time consuming and painful) was to add a foot of high quality fishtank airline and two inline connectors, the midpoint of the new line being the hinge area, pulling back the original hose by 6 inches both sides. This has the advantage that if the pipework does get damaged in future it is easy to disconnect both ends and put a new piece in.

Oh and yes, if you want to buy the jets, they are a lot more expensive than a mere fiver. Better to drill out a slightly bigger hole in each unit to avoid this sort of thing as removing the washer bottle for a clean is a complete front end bumper removal in itself and a real pain.

Wiper arm assemblies with free skooshy nozzles were running at about £12 on ebay when I last checked for the Rover 25. Not beyond the realms of affordability, but still more than a fiver.

I never asked a Rover franchise for a price. Go on, surprise me Mr Facts. (c:

Maybe you do, maybe you don't. I don't personally care, but I am aware that nearly every email from your corner contains unwarrented expletives.
