The power starts to come in on acceleration and then goes all flat, it makes overtaking pretty dangerous, any ideas as to the cause?

At what engine speeds and gears is this happening?
No, it makes overtaking where the driver doesn't compensate for the difference, potentially dangerous.
MAF ? or Lambda sensors maybe. Take to dealer and have diagnostic check.
