More than likely its bent numerous valves, broke a few tappets, knackered some seats and possibly damaged a piston or two. Their not the best engine to let a camblet break on!!

Yes, they are interferrance, and yes you will have some bent valves and or smashed tappets.

Sorry to hear about that; might be worth keeping an eye out on eBay as Mi16 engines and heads pop up from time to time. Can't imagine its done anything less worse than mangling your valves. Hopefully it hasn't damaged your pistons too, so you at least have half an engine left.

BTW how old was the cam-belt? Maybe something like the water-pump seized causing it to fail, which is worth checking.

I've known one snap while ticking over on it's own on someones drive, it all looked fine and ran again, but had bent 5 inlet valves, slightly, causing loss of compression. Gray Cole races one in Classic Touring cars, his engine was originally a snapped cambelt jobbie, and had smashed one piston, and the inlet valves on that cylinder, no other damage. I think you need to get the head off and inspect it for the definative answer.
