Carlton Starting Gremlins - Cured ......

Hi all,

Posted "Carlton Starting Gremlins" a bit ago and finally got around to tackling it.

Crankshaft sensor clean - No imporovements (But was surprised how sh1ted up it was).

Fuel Injection System Relay (behind small panel to RHS of Drivers feet !!!) - Changed and SOLVED THE PROBLEM INSTANTLY :)))))))

Not sure why, but starts first time everytime now in the mornings.

thanks all.

Andy.

Cool, they are another known problem - but in my experience of Carlton starting problems that's never been the cause. In my last Carlton it cut out one day, and I paid £27 for a new relay and it made no difference. I then replaced everything like plugs/leads, rotor arm/dizzy cap etc., still no good. In then end it was just low on fuel - once it got below a quarter of a tank or so it would do this - reliably so - I put it down to floating crap in the fuel tank, and ever since I stopped letting it run below a 1/4 tank it was 100% reliable. That was a 93/K model - the other time I had problems was with an older one (88/F) and I'd tried everything from a new coil (plus another one, thinking that was faulty!), new plugs/leads/rotor arm/dizzy cap/king lead/etc., and then when I tried cleaning the crank sensor it fired up straight away.

Suppose the trick is to try the obvious cheap/free things and then spend money!
