Cavalier heater problems

Hi, just driven home & the heater refuses, well, to heat! It's a 1.6l F reg new shape, any suggestions where to start? There's no leaking etc, if it's a thermostat based thing is there a way to bypass it completely to force the heat on constantly as a quick fix?

TIA

Sure you haven't lost coolant ? If so, is there any resistance in the hot-cold slider - perhaps the cable has detached or snapped... (Bad news if it has, it's a total bugger getting in behind that panel to fix anything.)

I'll definitly check the coolant but I wouldn't imagine so, all the sliders seem to have the same resistance, I've got to dismantle half the dash anyway to change the radio due to lack of security rods anyway, maybe something will show up then!

Over fifteen years old. Before you start dismantling things try driaining and flushing the system. Could be sludged up. DaveK.

With engine warmed up, check that top hose is very hot. Identify inlet and outlet pipes to heater, both should be hot. If they are hot, probably seized control links and/or baffles. Inlet hot, outlet cool=blockage in heater matrix.. Both cool=blockage in system or air lock. DaveK.
