Changing power socket to be switched?

I'm 99% sure the answer to this is no,, but...

Is there an easy way (easy as in someone like my self who is generally clueless about everything can do) to change the power outlet socket in my '04 Fiesta to only provide power when the ignition is on, rather than all the time?

Reason I ask is I'm installing a GPS receiver, which has a flashing green light which is nice and obvious to people when parked on the road at night.

I know I could just pull the plug out.. but I'm lazy!

For the amount of work invovled you may as well hardwire the GPS into a switched ignition live. Keeps it neater, it's no more hassle and you still have the cigar socket free.

Probably right. Not a single clue what is involved in that tho.. presumably it would have to be professionally installed.. which likely means about £50-60 at a guess, which is a lot to pull out since the setup I have at the moment works apart from is not being switched.

Anyway, I guess they would have to drill some holes in the dash to run the wires? I'm never sure of such things as it might affect the cars resale value..

If you really want to use the ciggy lighter, buy an in line switch as use for bedside lamps and the like and put it into the cable to the GPS.

If he cant be arsed pulling the socket out, what makes you think he will want to go to the gargantuan effort of switching a switch off.
