Cold Air/Vacuum Leak on a Vauhall 1.6

Hi

I have a 53plate Combo Van with the 1.6 Petrol Engine (LPG).

Recently when the van has started making a phheert noice for about a second at a time, usually this can be provoked by a variation in engine speed, say when changing gear. But i can only ever make it do it once or twice per cold start. Everything else runs fine - engine runs a little fast, but i assume that is choke, and thence once it is warmed up and onto LPG it settles down. The sound is something liek you might get by releasing air from a ballon. Making me think that it is some sort of air/vacuum leak?

Any common places that i should start putting soapy water/gas on?

Incidentally doe these engines run cool? I can hardly get the temp gauge of the rest around town?

Give me a nice diesel any day.

Well, if it's a vacuum leak, soapy water won't be much good. You'll need to find where the leak is by putting one end of a length of plastic pipe in your ear and searching for the noise with the other end.

Or pointing an unlit gas torch at it and listening for the revs rising.(At your own risk, obviously care is required.)
