MOT: Windscreen

Dec 17, 2007 10 Replies

I was just giving the car a clean and cheacking all the lights, horn, seats belts etc etc and saw there is a chip in the drivers side of the windscreen. Its very small and was wondering if this is a fail ?

There are a couple lower down of it too but are all tiny, I though it was just grit tbh till I cleaned it :)

Is this a fail ?

James ("James" ) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

If it's in the wiper area in front of the driver, and it can't be fitted into a 10mm circle, then yes.

A google for "MOT windscreen" finds several sites with a clear diagram.

Probably not, if it's that small. The rules are clearly described here:

If you have comprehensive insurance, you can probably get it repaired free (but check, as some insurers are now charging even for this!). Either way, get it repaired before it does crack.

Thank you both.

Its small than 10mm so hopefully it shouldn't kick up a problem.

Everything else is in tip top condition, I hope it passes.

It will if you don't get it repaired. Really is worth doing as a cracked screen is much more of a problem, and will cost you lots more to sort out!

Good luck!

Tony

I noticed that mine has added a £10 excess on windscreen repairs.

Bob

the big shopping centre car parks near me have free autoglass repairs while you shop.
