Coolant type?

What coolant type sould I use for an M reg (1995) Saab? I understand that the crucial choice is between red and blue types, but the current fluid doesn't show any colouring that I can recognise.

Blue-green should be fine. Red-pink is better, but not necessary. Be careful not to mix between the two.

If you can't tell what's in there already, then it really does need a good flush-out anyway. Drain it, flush it through, fill it with neat water, run it up to temp, drain it again. There's a lot of corners that don't get easily drained.

If the block's similar to the one in my old 900, then there's a drain plug casting low on the block on one side. Don't even attempt to shift it

- it'll be full of crap and probably corroded. If you try, you'll probably snap it.

Google is your frind, yeah ryte... Sorry for pondering to myself.

A little plodding around shows me that red is the modern choice, stating from around 1998, but incompatible with blue. So need to flush the system thoroughly. Maybe some can advice on this.

Car is a 9000 2.3 Turbo auto, and there is a drain plug shown in the car manual. But how do you flush without taking off the drain plug. Maybe I could try, then leave it on if it's too hard to turn?

Bottom hose.

Bit late once the drain casting cracks...

I think it depends on the rad. Older copper ones don't like the modern long life stuff. Most are ally these days. You can safely use the older stuff with ally, though.
