Corsa Tarpety noise on startup

Dec 12, 2005 6 Replies

Over the last few weeks my 2000 1.6/16v corsa has started to make a tappety noise when started from cold which lasts for about 5 second and quietens. Its never done it before and the oil was changed 6k ago. Its only done 36k miles from new, is it just going to be a tappet and is there anything I can do about it. Someone mentioned flushing engine and oil change.

Thanks

that was meant to say "tappety"

I would give it a couple of oil changes using the genuine synthetic oil, it will probably cure it, if not then you need to get a new set of tappets fitted, this is a common problem, in my opinion caused by lack of enough quality oil changes for the use of the vehicle.

Thanks for that. Would you reccomend fluching while changing the oil? I noticed the oil light come on tonight while cornering so im guessing it getting a little low on oil, could it pruely be down to this?

Also if the oil change dosent cure it how much am I looking at to buy a set of 16 tappets, would be fitting myself.

Thanks

personally I don't like flushing oil, as sometimes it loosens up too much crap that blocks things !

I would rather change the oil twice in short succession, say 500 miles or so, use good oil each time. good oil has detergents in which will clean, the filter catches the bits.

each tappet will be about 5 pounds

Many thanks for that, will be changing the oil at the weekend and will let you know how it turns out.

Changed the oil on saturday and now all the ticking on startup has gone. Many thanks for the advice
