Have you actually tried to start it since you puddled it?
IIRC the AA/RAC bloke tried didn't he? If it turned over ok at that time then there's not enough water in the cylinders to cause a problem. When the head gasket went on my old Panda, yonks ago, the sump drank *all* the water and it still ran well enough to get me home. And the pistons were lovely and clean when I got the head off it :)
When there's a lot of water in the cylinders it will show itself immediately by fecking the engine in a very obvious way.
