Degreasing tank

A baby bath sounds ideal but why use thinners? Why not use either diesel (red) or, better, paraffin. These are cheaper, less flammable, and won't affect the plastic.

a 5 gallon square type oil drum cut in two vertically is very useful, you can use the 'top' half as a lid.

aha...the degreaser i would buy would be in a 5 gallon tin, so hopefully it may be in a square tin as u suggested....excellent.

I use "Engine Degreaser" in one of those plastic stackable storage tubs, no damage to the plastic yet after 6 months of it sat in there with a xflow head in it ;)

Spray it in Gunk or Paraffin then wash it off with detergent and hot water. Cylinder heads will only have oily deposits and maybe a little carbon around the valve stems. Scrape that off by hand, caustic soda won't improve the gas flow. DaveK.

what engine degreaser do u use? cost? i can get 25L of thinners for about =A315 or degreaser for about 20 odd....

thanks for the advice dave, rest assured i do not expect gas flow to improve just from cleaning it ;-)

i have used gunk and washing methods before...very messy and i would rather just leave it soak for a few days and then just gently agitate the worst bits off easy then....

any one tried "Cillit bang"? marvellous product! not recommended on ally, but i left a very dirty exhaust valve sitting in this stuff for a few days and the baked on carbon just wiped off! excellent stuff
