deicer

Hi I've heard about a de-icer that you spray on the screen at night and it forms a foamthat you just wipe off in the morning. Does anyone know which make it is and where I can get it? Thanks Phil

Why bother?

Just pour tap-hot water over the windows, then flick the wipers on. Clears the windows in seconds, and warms the glass to prevent steaming.

It Just Works.

I usually either pop a fan heater in the car for a half hour or put luke warm water over the ice and wipe with a squeegie, keep a deicer spray for when you are out late, but avoid it if you can.

But, that means buying a shitty Ford

Not necessarily.

You could buy one of the many decent Fords available. Or a Jaguar.

See other post.

They appear to be rather fragile, as the one I hired only demisted the passenger side.

Heap of s**te, it was.

That is somewhat overpriced, i was selling some in the shop a couple of years ago for a couple of quid.

I bought some tried it and to be honest if found it pretty s**te, whilst it did largely prevent the ice forming it turned to a sticky goop, which i then had to was off, great if the screenwash isn't frozen, not so great 80% of the time when the alcohol has evaporated out of the water at the nozzles and frozen them up!

I have just found some clingy-to-glass plastic/vinyl that i lob on the screen then whip off in the morning, that seems to work a treat.

My 10 year old 95K Focus has every part of the HFS working, as did the Escort I had previously.

Well, at least it wasn't Italian.

AFAIK Halfords do one. Called 'Night Before De-icer' Protects down to -25C. Works OK but if it rains prior to freezing, it washes off. Mike.

The Mondeo is more exclusive than the common as dogshit 3 series BMW and it's the best car in its class, too.

Reminds me. Have you heard those Autoglass adverts about small stone chips turning into giant cracks the moment you put the heater on the screen on a frozen morning. Well I for one think it's a lot of old Bull. Probably gets them more trade though.

Having tried many methods, I find that the simplest and quickest method is to use a flexible plastic spoon! Well, before you dismiss this idea as silly, here is the explanation. To start, a plastic spoon doesn't damage the glass, yet the small scraping area means that you can get pressure on the glass to completely remove ice in a strip at a time. It doesn't take many arm movements to criss cross the screen over a considerable area. There will be small islands of ice left, but this doesn't affect the visibility very much, they will clear away quickly anyway, once you start driving.

Or clear all the crap out of the garage :-)

Tumble dryers and freezers don't work so well out on the drive.
