Do Garages Do What They Charge You For ?

Hi guys,

I always find the non-replacement of the oil filter terrible practise. The oil and filter change is one of the best things you can do on an often basis to prolong the life of your car's engine. Therefore, charging and not replacing is awful.

Especially since the trade cost of an oil filter and its disposal is really quite low, oil filters are now classed as hazardous waste, so you have to pay to have them taken away now (in our area anyway) But it is still less than a couple of quid cost and you can charge about 6 - 12 pounds for a filter. So anyone that wipes one over is really trying to screw you.

To make sure a garage does what it charges for try this:

  1. Buy a cheap lockable briefcase.

  1. Have it gold blocked with the words 'TRADING STANDARDS'.

  2. Leave it on the passenger seat when you take your car in.

You could probably also cause panic walking around a car boot sale with it.

That's a lovely bastardly idea. I may just work on it a bit.
