What the easiest (best) way to stop the engine trying to fire when doing a compression test on Nissan Micra? In the old days (!!!) I'd just disconnect the supply to "the" coil. These days...not so easy (well I don't know how anyway) :-)

Pull the fuel pump fuse, then run it until it stops.
If you can't find the fuse, post again with exact specification and I will look on Autodata.

Also locate the ignition coils and unplug them. If connected the spark has to go somewhere and that could result in coil pack failure if it's in coil winding.
Very good point. These days a compression check is rarer than hen's teeth !!
To get the engine to spin over fast enough, it's usual to remove all the plugs before doing the compression test.
Because it's not a reliable way of checking the condition of rings and valves, etc. A leakdown test is the preferred way these days.
Sure, I was going to try a comp test - as I already have a compression tester. I don't think the test is without value - the way the needle steps up etc. Anywayalways good to learn of better ways ta
