Engine Oil

I'm just looking for some advice on engine oil for my car. I hadpreviously used 15W40, and my car didn't loose any oil. After usingthat for a year I got some 10W40, and it seems be using some oil now.I changed it to 10W50 about 6 months ago and my level is about halfwaybetween min and max now (lost around 500ml). It's not too bad, butit's a bit annoying, especially if it gets to the point where I need totop it up. For this reason I'm gonna go back to 15W40, but I've stillgot 5.5 litres of this 10W40.Do you think I should do another fill with 10W40, or give it tosomebody else, and get some 15W40? I'm also interested whether youthink one is better at lubricating than the other. My dad suspectsthat the 10W40 could be better when cold because it gets to the partsquicker, but then on the other hand the 15W40 is thicker which willlibricate better.

Quite, as long as its still got correct API ratings. I think I'd rather go this route, and change the cheap stuff every 3000 miles than bother with anything else for this type of car.

I saw some Shell Helix stuff at the petrol station today. It said Premium on it, and it was =A313.99 for what looked like about 5l, I'll probably look at that kinda think when I've used up my Magnatec. To be honest I'm not keen on rubbish stuff forr short trips, I want oil that can stand up to a bit of condensation.
