sounds like the primer head seal has gone and allowing it not to be bleed properly, last one i did i ended up towing it up the road to get it going, you can just buy the primer head as a kit containing new seals ect.

Thankyou for your kind response, the filter seems to be filling with diesel and the primer button is rock hard could this still be the case, cheers Mark

Try loosening the injector unions , one at a time, to ensure diesel is reaching the injectors.

The actual primer itself sounds fine. Normally they'll either leak diesel out from around the primer button, or they just don't pump in which case they don't go firm.

Did you remove the outlet pipe from the filter head when you primed the filter? You should remove the outlet pipe, and pump the primer until fuel with no air comes out, before trying to start the engine.

If you never done this, then there will be air in the system. Follow the outlet pipe from the filter head to the pump, and remove it at the pump end. Pump the primer until air free fuel comes out the pipe, then reconnect, and pump the primer a couple more times until it goes firm. Now you'll have to crack the injector pipes open at the injectors (1/4 to

1/2 turn is enough), and get someone to crank the engine until fuel starts spurting out (this fuel will be under high pressure, so don't put your hands near it when the engines cranking over). At that point, stop cranking the engine and tighten the pipes. The engine should now start.
