Couldn't re-lock my fuel cap the other day after a fill-up ('96 escort). Strangely, if I turn the mechanism by hand with the key in it works fine but nothing on earth will turn it the key in it anymore. Got a new one 5 mins later from halfrauds (didn't want to go far with it only wedged in) which the guy said should be just like mine. Of course it isn't (which I told him) but took it anyway as it does lock. Fine and dandy but my concern is this. The original locking mechanism ended in a metal point which I suspect touched against the metal disc at surrounded by green plastic at the fuelling end. This replacement has a *much* shorter locking mechanism (though still a point at the end) which doesn't go anywhere near it. Should I be concerned??
TIA
