Fiat Punto

My daughter has a 2000 W reg Punto which has recently developed an annoying fault.

When moving in slow traffic, or rolling up to a junction, it occasionally revs up on its own accord to 3500 RPM and stays there until the ignition is switched off. When re-started from this point, it is normally OK but has on one occasion re-started and the revs are high again.

I don't think it points at a mechanical fault, more an electronic one.

Have any of you any views/experience of similar?

Most probably the idle actuator. With the number of similar posts on here lately they appear to die fairly regularly.

Thanks, it's going in garage this am so she'll suggest this to mechanic.
