Fiesta bonnet

Zetec 96 one.

My bonnet wouldn't open, tried all sorts and was just about to bust the front grille off when one final tug with a pair of pliers on the inside bit of the cable freed a seized catch.

I was wondering though how on earth you could get a bonnet to open without causing damage if say the cable had snapped..

It's going to be hard, on any vehicle. I've only seen it happen once, on a brand new Cavalier that was straight off the transporter from Vauxhall. It didn't snap, just hadn't been connected in the first place. Took the mechanic the whole afternoon to sort it, from underneath with the vehicle on the lift. The bonnet lock is a security device, after all. I seem to recall my dad fitting one as an accessory to some car when I was a kid - anyone old enough to remember if this could be right?

I'm sure it could be right. I've fitted electric demisters with a suction cup either end to stick to the screen. Stick on demist panels. A heater that consisted of a box that clamped to the back of the radiator with a tube that went through to warm the cab. Electric wipers to replace vacuum ones that stopped immediately you hit a hill ! That reminds me of a guy before the heady days of air reserviors, who attempted to fabricate one from an old pertol can and of course it immediately imploded as soon as the engine was started :-) Interior lights. Lights on indicators. Failed brake light indicators, vacuum guages, ammeters. That all I can recall at the moment ! :-)

A few more if you like. Rear fog lights. Parking lights you hang on the side of the car (I wouldn't believe that one, except there's one in my dad's garage!) Reversing lights - with dashboard toggle switch of course. Electronic ignition kits. Any more bygone 'must have' accessories, anyone?

The Mini and Land Rover {have|had} aftermarket plates available that allow you to fit a padlock through to lock the bonnet, doubtless somesuch existed for other vehicles.

Oh yes ! I'd forgotten the parking light, white to front, red to rear obviously... that clipped to the top of door glass ! :-) That's reminded me of the plastic picnic tables, that used to push down inside the door glass, with stays that rested on the door panel ! My parents always felt a break was essential on the trip from Brighton to Tunbridge Wells !!

Yeah right, I tried a spam trap, and was wasting my time, thick as 2 short ones some people. End up having to discuss your business on Usenet

I liked the old A35, with a really nice big knob (as it were) on the dashboard for the indicators.

And the pokie/ flag out indicators, which I have never been the proud owner of..

I did see a car with a badge proudly proclaiming that it had an 'Aluminium Cylinder Head' once.

Do a google search on one of my posts relating to me completely buggering up a Carlton bonnet just minutes before figuring out a solution!!

Depends a lot on the car. Lagunas are quite easy with a long enough stick and access to the underneath. Pulling grills off is also an option.
