I have a 2001 Focus TDi. Recently the clutch master cylinder failed. I had this replaced and while doing so we found a switch on the back of the clutch pedal which was broken.
I haven't bothered replacing the switch, but everything seems to work OK. What does the switch do?
Also, on another matter, when I go a deep pothole at speed, the engine management and glow plug light come on for about 2-3 seconds. Any idea why this should occur?

The clutch switch is used by the engine ecu to better control idle speed at times where you draw up to a halt to help prevent stalling, and also when you change gear to allow the engine revs to drop faster for a smooth change. Whether the latter works very well is a matter of opinion, certainly with the petrol engines!
Not sure- sounds like a wiring fault somewhere, but would be nigh on impossible to trace until the fault gets worse...

I hit one deep one at about 35/40mph in the Mondeo and it cost me a new front coil spring. Unfortunately by the time I found out, the hole had been patched up, so I had no evidence to approach the council.
