87 300ZX clutch interlock switch

Help. If anyone has any experience with the clutch interlock switch, and how it activates, please email your TEL #. I need info. The car won't start unless the clutch is depressed, right? Mine won't start at all. The switch is okay, but there is a rubber missing that contacts the plunger on the switch. I've found a piece of rectangular rubber with double sided adhesive partially attached but can't figure out where it would go. I have the factory service manual, but it isn't much help. Sure, I can unplug the connector to the interlock switch and jumper it and it works. But would rather fix it right. This is puzzling.
