Focus Zetec oil & cutting out problem, 1.6 V Reg

water due to condensation) You are not lubricating you engine properly.

330k miles on a Rover with 6000 mile changes and the engine was still in good nick. So good in fact that the car was pinched. I've never understood the US/Canadian desire to change oil every 3 months - it might have been needed back in the 1950's but it isn't now.

Heh, mine is every 2 years or 20k miles :) It hasn't been changed yet, and it hasn't used any yet!

It really has nothing to do with the quality of the oil, (other than poor quality breaks down too fast.) The problem is water, dirt and swarf from the metal wearing normally. Modern oil has a better detergent which cleans the galleries better. Unfortunately it also picks up the garbage if left in too long and recirculates it. Pass through oil filters I believe(not sure) pass particles over 5 microns. Does fine grinding compound ring a bell? Like I said oil is cheap. Why even risk it? BTW I got my driving experience in England. Geoff.

thanks for info folks, oil/filter change done. lass happier and car works. see how it goes in the next few days......
