Ford Focus mk2.5 Rear Tyre issue..

I have a mk2.5 Ford focus deckwith 75k.

The car has recently started scrubbing off the inside edge on the rear tyres, are there any usual probs I should be looking at?

I have noticed since Oct/nov mpg has dropped 10 but I put this down to winter fuel...

Tyre pressures as per the sticker and never really need altering

Jack it up and secure it and pull the wheel assemblies about to find the fault. if nothing obvious then you should get a four wheel alignment check, something must be worn or bent.

Had it in today for checking and steering centralisation....

Can you confirm to recentralise the steering wheel when wheels are straight that you would require adjustments on the track rod ends?

This would expose clean thread and leave rub marks on the nuts?

Track Rossi. This are mounted on the rear a d lower part of the front wheels?

Yep.

You might see marks on the lock nuts, but whether or not clean thread was exposed would depend on which way out the tracking might have been.

(I thought the problem was with the rear?)

Sorry Touchscreen fart!

For the record I took the car to another garage that actually does

4wheel alignement rather than a garage who said they did then once they had carried out the work i find their idea of 4 wheel alignment was "well we make sure the back wheels follow the front".

The first allegardly sorted out the tracking at the front though...

When checked at a proper 4 wheel alignment place the front toe

Left -0º20' (spec -0º02' - 0º08)

Right -0º02' (spec -0º02' - 0º08)

Makes me rather unhappy about the first place that checked...

The rear was found to be out

Left 0º46' (spec 0º07 - 0º16') Right 0º17' (spec 0º07 - 0º16')

All have now been adjusted to within tolerance. Out of interest is the rear toe ajustable on focii? Jury seems out a couple of places incl the first garage say not. But the four wheel alignment place said ahhhh yes focus ajustable rear on them, we'll sort it.

It was also checked and nothing found to be bent.

I cant really think what has caused it to go out, the only think i can think was i hit a deep pothole around christmas that put an egg on the sidewall of a front tyre and the back followed through.
