I would agree that PAS is unnecessary on such a small, lightweight car. The Seicento we had had one of those electric PAS systems and it was horrible - took all the feel out of the steering.

Just wondered at what point Ford cured this fault (if they did). My elderly Mum has a 2000 (Xreg) Ka 1.3 and I'd hate to think she ever gets this problem. Mind you its only done 7000 miles (YES 7000) so probalby won't be a problem for her.

A whole chunk of cars have a dodgy ICV problem, not just the Ka and not just Fords.
On the other hand, infrequent warming up, infrequent servicing - compounds the problem. Be wise to check, it's six years old now.
