I suspect that my fuel guage on Citreon xsara is giving an incorrect reading.,is this possible.I,in my limited knowledge thought if the guage is faulty in any way it would show Empty.Am I wrong in thinking this. Thanks for any help--- allan g

Depends on the fault. If the variable resistor in the fuel tank was open circuit then it probably would read zero. A shorted turn or two could make it read incorrectly, as could any resistance in the wiring or connections.

If its the same as the fault on saxos- needle just stuck anywhere then try removing the battery for ten mins and reconecting it. I must have seen about

20 cases of this on the saxo forum(mine being one of them).

I have a new shape Xsara and ran out of petrol when the trip computer said I had 60 miles to go. The guage had not reached the red bit and the warning light had not come on. The warning light has come on before, so I know it works.

Since I was doing 70Mph up the A1 at the time, with an atric up my a*se, I was not best pleased. According to the dealer, the guage is computer controlled and is not 100% accurate unless you fill the tank, drain it, fill the tank drain it . . . Apparently this is how the car was designed to be used. The only way to reset it is to drain the system and reset the computer.

I am now paranoid when the guage goes anywhere near the red bit and the trip computer reads anything less than 150 miles to go.
