Haynes manuals declining in quality

Turning ignition on for 30 seconds ( or thereabouts ) without starting the engine works - this isnt in the Bentley manual, I got the info from an anonymoous poster to their tech news goup. As to resetting after a while, I cant tell, if you class a couple of weeks ( thats about

250 miles for me ) as a while, then it didnt work on my 1999 E46, but it does work on other cars, I believe.

I'm pretty certain it adds up the length of time between switching on and starting, so it will depend on how often you stop and start, and how quick you are at starting. Mine took about 3 days of my sort of motoring - before I learnt how to do it correctly off one of the newsgroups.

Only 13 years late, but hey, better late than never. ;-)

Tim, how do you get a date from that message? Even looking at the source/headers does not show a date at my end.

You have to go to groups.google on the web to find it.

ah, I will investigate that, thanks.

I don't think Haynes ever did because they would have been too expensive fo r the type of book they were offering. But I certainly had drawings as oppo sed to photos in a Land Rover manual I used to have years ago. And how much better that was. You could actually see what the parts were!
