Hengst = Bosch?

Hello,

I have just ordered some bits from a supplier recommended here, including what was advertised as a filter by Bosch. When the box arrived, it contained a filter by Hengst. I phoned them up to query whether I had been sent the wrong part and I was told rather abruptly that they were the same company, good bye. Are they the same people? And even so, isn't it a bit naughty to say Bosch and supply something saying Hengst?

Robert.

people that get excited about such things do say that hengst are better than bosch, so I would not worry about it, but AFAIK they are two different companies.

I looked there first, but the Bosch stuff from ECP represented a seemingly worthwhile saving. So, based on my perception of Bosch quality, and the fact that I was ordering stuff for my father-in-law's car at the same time, that's what I ordered. Had I known their filters had a poor reputation then I would've spent the extra on OEM. Too late now. Incidentally, my last car had all Bosch components in the fuel & ignition systems as OEM, and it proved to be very robust. The only issue I had was a MAF failure at 100k.

The filters came today, and the oil filter was actually a Bosch, not hengst (damn). All appeared to measure up to original quality, except for the pollen filter, which was made from thinner material with bits of sponge glued at the ends. A lot of messing about to fit it, too - not best impressed with that particular bit of design from Ford!

the ford oil filter is about 4.25, so how much can you save?, the ford pollen/odour filter is about 12. pattern odour filters do not have the charcoal that takes out the smells. Some things are worth economising on, many are not.

The total cost was £35.85. The same filters from fordpartsuk would've been 57.86 all in with delivery, so I saved 38%.

Like I said, I would NOT have gone down the cost saving road had I realised that quality would be compromised. If ECP were selling no-name stuff, I would've avoided it, but my only previous experience with Bosch has been good. In future, it will be motorcraft all the way. :-)
