Hi A friend of mine has built a kit car and used an engine from a Rover SDI 1970's vintage. It is a V8 but would like to know the following. Was it built by Buick or Rover. He has the engine number but needs to know what year it was manufactured as this is required for vehicle registration purposes. Would like to know where I can get this information if possible. Thanks Tony

( snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Original Buick design, Rover development and build.
Rimmer seem to have the info, but the Rangie numbers are the only ones on their site - the list on the SD1 and general v8 page seems to be broken.

This might be useful, too

The Rover V-8 is *based* on a '60s Buick design. But was totally built in this country by Rover. An actual Buick unit would be very rare indeed in the UK.
That might be tricky. It would be easier if you had the VIN of the car it came from. But that still wouldn't give the engine build date.
Trying to get VED free status? Not if it's from an SD1.
Is it possibly an MV engine?
