so if a diesel car needs a new exhaust and the original had a cat could a new exhaust be fitted with a repair pipe section instead of the cat and then pass an MOT
Would performance be affected?
Question arose as the previous model of the vehicle (Isuzu trooper) did not have a cat
The MOT guidelines do not mention a cat
Why ask? because the cat is 230gbp + vat

checking to see if a cat is fitted isn't part of the mot, in fact ive passed cars that should have had a cat fitted for mot emission purposes & it has passed without it, this was on the very early cat fitted models though.
Slightly more smoke in a well-tuned engine.
Not if it's a turbo-diesel. The Turbo will be producing all the back pressure, the exhaust pipe is only to keep the burnt s*it from being sucked back into the engine.
There's only a smoke-test for diesels.
